Our President and Chief 3D Printing Officer, Collin Kobayashi, was a participant at the Hawaii STEM Conference over the past weekend and below is his summary from the event…
“The 2014 STEMWorks Conference included over 300 students from 15+ schools across the state. With breakout sessions from 3D Design to Game Design, students were exposed to many industry technologies and got opportunities to learn about them from experts. The conference also included onsite design competitions which included Digital Media, Game Design, 3D Design (Product Design) and Video Design. Students were given tasks for each competition and were required to produce content according to the specifications given.
Guest speakers included a mapping expert from National Geographic, Economic Development leader, and former technology student turned entrepreneur. They shared their knowledge and expertise, providing insight on the importance of technology and the various applications available.
All in all, it was another great event that showcased the STEM projects and activities going on in the state and collaborative effort in providing opportunities to our future workforce.”
The annual Hawaii STEM Conference is almost here! We are thrilled to be a partner again this year for such a wonderful event!
At this year’s conference 3D Innovations will be hosting several breakout sessions covering areas of 3D Design and 3D Printing. (To view the entire list of breakout sessions please click here.)
In addition to these breakout sessions, 3D Innovations will be hosting a Design Competition, where students will be given a design task to create a design based on specific requirements. They will have most of Friday and Saturday to complete their designs. Each team will then present their final design solutions to a panel of judges for review.
Each year this conference becomes larger and reaches even more students in Hawaii. The turnout for this 5th annual Hawaii STEM Conference is sure to be extraordinary and we look forward to sharing our passion for STEM education with all of these young minds. Hope to see you there!
Happy Friday! As we do every week, here is your weekly 3D printing and STEM education news update! We have scoured the internet’s blogosphere and news resources to bring you the most talked about news. As you will see, President Obama’s 2014 budget in regards to STEM education was a hot topic of conversation. Also, if you are short on time we recommend that you check out Exploring 7 materials with 3D printing and see what some materials of the future look like — pretty cool!
It is time again for the Hawaii STEM Conference! This year marks the 4th successful year
of the Hawaii STEM conference. STEM/Service Learning students, teachers, parents, community and business leaders are invited to gather on Maui to celebrate STEM learning projects, experience the excitement of a regional technology conference and share stories with other students from different islands. A primary goal of this STEM event is to challenge and encourage as much participation from students as possible.
This year there will be competitions in the following areas:
CAD Application Showcase
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Poster Competition (Download STEMWORKS logo to be used in the poster competition)
SketchUp Urban Design Competition
Approximately 200 facilitators and students will have the opportunity to attend hands-on and presentation-style training breakout sessions during the Hawaii STEM Conference.
There are a lot of great breakout sessions but the two we are most excited for are the Pre-Engineering sessions:
Pre-Engineering In 3D – Beginners — CAD Discover Pre-Engineering and Design methods using 3D CAD. This hands-on session demonstrates how 3D Technology makes engineering & design interactive, transforming ideas into prototypes and products.
Pre-Engineering In 3D – Advanced– CAD Must have 2 years experience with CAD programming. This hands-on session offers students a more comprehensive dive into 3D technology with more advanced engineering & design interactive challenges.
3D Innovations is a proud sponsor of the Hawaii STEM Conference. It is a great opportunity for students to explore the large and ever-changing word of STEM education. We highly encourage students attend this wonderful STEM experience!
