It’s Friday and you know what that means…it’s time for your weekly 3D Printing and STEM education news roundup! This week in the ever growing world of 3D printing the “big” news is that Amazon has now entered the playing field (please see below for a couple articles related to this business move). In the realm of STEM education, we really found the article Engineering students want jobs at NASA, Google, Boeing, Apple and Microsoft — in that order very intriguing and it gives you real insight into the frame of mind of our engineering students and what really inspires them.

On a side note, we would like to thank everyone that made it out to our second Product Design and Development Seminar on Monday, June 10th in Honolulu at the Manoa Innovation Center! We had a wonderful time sharing information and meeting everyone!

Q&A Session: Prototyping, Product Design, 3D Printing & Much More…

As you know, last week and this week we held two Product Development and Design Seminars in Hawaii. We found that these were not only a great opportunity to get out into the community, but they also proved very useful to help entrepreneurs and small businesses get their engineering, manufacturing, prototyping, 3D CAD, additive manufacturing/3D printing, product design and development questions answered. This got us thinking, there must be many more people out there that are curious about all of these design aspects as well, but just do not have a resource in which to ask their questions… Well now you do!

Product Design & Development Seminar (Honolulu, June 10th)

This week we hosted a Product Design & Development Seminar on Maui (it went really well!) and next Monday (June 10, 2013) we will be doing the same in Honolulu at the Manoa Innovation Center. If you are going to be in the Honolulu area next Monday and are interested in product design and development we would love to see you at this event!

We will be focusing the discussion around accelerating your design project. Our CEO, Collin Kobayashi, will also share information about the following topics:

  • Learn about the Product Development process and steps to commercialize your products.
  • See what methods are most effective in streamlining the design process including design methods, visualization tools, prototyping techniques, and which manufacturing process would best fit your needs.
  • Hear about how 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing could benefit your projects and how to accelerate your schedule to meet production manufacturing requirements.

3D Academy, A Division of 3D Innovations, LLC provides training services specializing in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technology.

3D Academy promotes Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education programs that integrate 3D Technology into K–12, as well as university classrooms. Using hands-on and project based learning strategies, we have been effective in providing students with opportunities to excel in the areas of STEM and to integrate industry applications into their learning experiences. Our core program utilizes 3D CAD and takes students through the entire design process (design, prototyping, manufacturing, etc.). When integrated into school curriculum, our STEM education programs provides students with opportunities to solve real world design problems, engage with industry standard technology, and transform concepts into reality. Education programs are available statewide and have been integrated with many robotics programs such as FIRST, UROV, BotBall, and First Lego League. The 2012 Global Conference on Educational Robotics

The 2012 Global Conference on Educational Robotics is currently being held in Honolulu for the week of July 18 through July 22, 2012. We are very excited to have such a wonderful conference in Hawaii.

There is quite an impressive list of speakers at this year’s conference from all over the world. This conference in the past has been held in California, Illinois and Virginia, we feel very lucky to have it come to Honolulu.

More than 56 middle and high school aged robotics students from all over the world, including Austria, New England, and Qatar are gathering this week at the Hawaii Convention Center. To view images from the conference shared by the Honolulu Star Advertiser, please click here.

We hope to have more conference such as this make their way to Hawaii. Hawaii has a very international appeal and is a true untapped resource for the STEM community.

To all of the student attendees we would like to share a powerful quote from Fredi Lajvardi, a FIRST Robotics coach, “Dream big, be creative, and solve problems”.

3D Innovations & 3D Academy STEM Internship

3D Innovations & 3D Academy are proud to announce that our summer intern has officially started!

About Our Intern: She is a Junior from Maui High School. She is a very goal oriented young lady and through this internship she has set two main goals for the summer:

  1. She wants to become more familiar with CAD and its related processes;
  2. She would also like to learn more about the engineering/design process to better their teams efforts in the Vex and FIRST Robotics programs.

Through this internship she plans on developing better problem solving methods and efficient design change methods. With high school graduation just a year away she is already planning for a major in Mechanical Engineering.

Our Internship: She will be working with 3D Innovations & 3D Academy to learn about the engineering/design process and assisting with various design projects. She will be involved with all aspects of design and how it is integrated with CAM, CAE, CFD, Rapid Prototyping, and Additive Manufacturing. The internship is from June 11th -July 13th.

We are very excited to have her as a part of our team! We hope that with the skills she learns this summer she will become a strong leader for the Vex and  FIRST Robotics programs and one step closer to achieving her career goal!
